Born to a family of elves, this elf had intended to enter the buisness of his father, and his father’s father, and his father’s father’s cousin. He was destined to be a baker.
But lo, the fates had not that in store for him. For in his 20th year the 132nd Goblin War broke out out of nowhere. He joined the elven army in an attempt to save his homeland from the goblin menace. As the only new conscript that year, (most people intending to join had joined during the last war, the 131st Goblin War, which ended a week prior) he recieved hands on training from the legendary elven archery instructor, Jake (his full name being Jake T’ethella).
Learning the ancient skill of the bow in just ten easy steps, Lantfeust went out to join the war. He walked 10 days alone to battle. He set out North on the first day, returning on the 10th as he recalled the battle was south. Finally arriving to the battle he was assigned to the 12th Elven division. They fought bloody battle after bloody battle with the goblins, stopping only to celebrate the Elven Day of Peace, then attacking the goblins families the next day.
On the 18th day of the war, his company was ambushed while he visited the little elves room, leaving him the only survivor of the ambush, despite being caught with his pants down, as his comarades had been. After reporting back to High Elven Command he was sent to Elven Low Command, where they actually had a record of him. For surviving the battle and fending off the goblin attack that had decimated his company (it turns out winners DO write the history books, or at least the combat reports) he was promoted to squad leader and sent out on scouting missions.
One day, while out on a scouting mision he spotted rustling in the bushes. He ordered his men to silence, brought out his bow and made a 70ft shot right into the rustler. Upon hearing elvish swearing he immedietly assumed the enemy had learned their language in order to better steal their women from them. He drew his sword, and was about to order an attack when the rest of the elves in the scouting party he attacked appeared, swearing in elvish.
Upon returning to Elven Low Command, (the elf Lantfeust shot having died along the way) Lantfeust was awarded a medal. It turns out the elf he killed was selling elvish women to the goblins in return for time with their goblin women. Lantfeust’s commanders were very impressed with his deduction skills in rooting out the traitor.
Lantfeust’s career in the Elvish army is a long tale, encompassing 40 years of service, over 20 different Goblin Wars, 2 Hobgoblin Wars, 1 Civil War, 1 coronation and leading to the aquisition of over 50 merit badges. Over the course of his career he killed many enemies, lost many friends and bet on the right side of a civil war. There was also an incident with a griffon that has become a tale of its own. But that story is not suitable for Elves ages 25 and under.
In his 60th year it was decided that the Elves did not know enough of the outside world. This realization came when a travelling band of humans came to visit in the previous year, resulting in several half-elven children being born. The realization that they could mate with creatures other than themselves brought forth a flurry of intellectual debate and the eventual creation of a fact finding mission to the lands beyond their borders.
Volunteers were called upon to explore the rest of the world, with orders to report back once they’d learned everything they could. Elves, being naturally inclined to doing things that keep them alive, shied away from such a dangerous assignment. The concept of volunteers was abanonded and names were then drawn out of a hat.
Lantfeust was volunteered for the mission by the Magic Deciding Hat. He said goodbye to his family, his friends and both fiances and set off North in the name of all Elven Kind.
Ten days later he returned and set off South for the glory of all Elven Kind.
